Chlorine is added to the water to kill germs. But it does not work right away. If used properly, free chlorine can kill most germs within a few minutes. CDC recommends pH 7.2–7.8 and a free chlorine concentration of at least 1 ppm in pools and at least 3 ppm in hot tubs/spas. https://www.cdc.gov/healthywater/swimming/residential/disinfection-testing.html

First, as pH goes up, the ability of free chlorine to kill germs decreases. Second, as pH goes down the ability of free chlorine to kill germs increases but the pool or hot tub/spa pipes are more likely to corrode or break down. Third, keeping the pH in the 7.2–7.8 range helps keep swimmers comfortable in the water by helping to prevent eye and skin irritation.

Test free chlorine concentration and pH at least twice per day and more often when the pool or hot tub/spa is being used often. https://www.cdc.gov/healthywater/swimming/residential/disinfection-testing.html

Pool water chemistry with proper filtration is the key to healthy, clean water. Everything that enters the body of water affects water balance: swimmers, rain, pollution, leaves and grass, animals and chemicals. Every pool in each season creates its own demand for different chemicals due to differing variables.
Substances such as body lotion, oils, perfumes, perspiration and other human waste liquids can throw off the ph balance of a pool forcing it to work harder. This means your pool will require more treatment, cleaning and effort. A simple solution like showering with soap before you enter a pool yields savings in chemicals and helps ease the burden on your pool, your expenses and your time.
Yes, skimmer baskets must be cleaned regularly. Skimmer baskets once clogged with debris will block the flow of water, which can eventually burn out the pump motor and prevent the heater from working.
You can have a loss of water up to an inch per week or even more due to evaporation at the hottest times of the year. Water temperature and pool usage also affect pool water level. A manual or automatic pool cover can be used to help with evaporation. However, if you have a significant loss of water you may have a pool leak. If you suspect a leak call us immediately.

You can check these items:
1. Is the heater on?
2. Are you out of fuel – propane or natural gas?
3. Did you recently get a fuel delivery? Failure to properly vent the line after filling will not allow the pool heater to fire.
4. Is the water at the correct level in relation to the skimmer? Or is the skimmer flapper stuck?
5. Does the heater show a code?
6. If you have a spa, was the system left in ‘spa mode’?

Yes. Toys can be sucked into the skimmer mouth blocking circulation in your pool, in turn causing damage to pumps and heaters.

Pool water turns green because of algae in the water, this generally means you have an imbalance or lack of chlorine in the water. Algae can grow rapidly with sunshine and warm weather, which is why it can bloom and grow practically overnight.
No. Pools can handle cold temperatures better when partially filled with water as a buffer. A drained pool can also crack or pop out of the ground because of pressure from ground water. To include your equipment will have freeze gaurd protection and will continue to run and cycle water if cold tempatures get down to freezing levels.
A RWI is a recreational water illness. They caused by germs spread by swallowing water, breathing in mists of water, or having contact with contaminated water in swimming pools, spas, hot tubs, water play areas, interactive fountains or natural bodies of water.

Chlorine in swimming pools kills the germs that can make people sick, but it does not kill all germs instantly. There are germs today that are very tolerant to chlorine and were not known to cause human disease until recently. Once these germs get in the pool, it can take anywhere from minutes to days for chlorine to kill them. Healthy swimming behaviors and good hygiene are needed to protect you and from RWIs and will help stop germs from getting in the pool. https://www.medicinenet.com/recreational_water_illnesses_rwis/article.htm

To date there is no evidence that COVID-19 can spread to people through the water used in pools, hot tubs, or water playgrounds. Proper operation and disinfection (chlorination and chemical balance) of pools, hot tubs, and water playgrounds should kill the virus that causes COVID-19. Limit close contact with people outside your home in public spaces, both in and out of the water. https://www.cdc.gov/healthywater/swimming/index.html

Pools can be hazardous to a number of small animals. We also don’t like to think of our little ones running out excitedly to take a swim, only to discover the harshness of nature. Luckily, a wildlife biologist invented FrogLog to help critters out, literally.  https://froglog.us
